COVID-19 Updates

Dear Americana Hotel Family,

For 57 years, we have lived the motto “Hospitality Is Our Business.” Being hospitable means putting the wellbeing of our team and guests - all of whom we consider family - and the community at the foundation of everything we do.  

Like so many others, we have taken our already high standards to an even higher level in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We have implemented additional precautions, including more frequent sanitization, especially of high contact surfaces such as door handles, counters, tables, electronics, elevators, restrooms, and shuttle vans; thorough room disinfection between every stay; hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel; distribution of healthcare information specific to the D.C. area; and daily staff illness screenings plus firm directives to everyone to stay home if feeling unwell.

We’re sure you know the drill, but for safety’s sake, please be sure to cover your mouth (with your elbow or a tissue) when you sneeze or cough, take at least 20 seconds to wash your hands and do so frequently throughout the day, refrain from touching your face, and increase your “personal space” zone. In addition to performing these small acts, please avoid traveling if you are not feeling well.

As of now, we are “open for business" and will continue to provide the clean, comfortable, conveniently located, friendly, and affordable accommodations you have expected since 1963. Since this is an evolving situation that we are carefully monitoring, if anything changes, we will be sure to let you know and have created a FAQ for your convenience.

To Our Valued Guests:

We regret to inform you of an operational change we are enacting due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Starting Monday, March 16, 2020, we are suspending our complementary continental breakfast until further notice. It was a difficult decision, but in the interest of the health of you, our staff, and the community as a whole, we believe it is prudent to minimize the number of people who might come into contact with your food.

For now, we will still provide 24-hour coffee and tea service in the lobby, but we ask that everyone please take additional cleanliness precautions when utilizing this area. For example, please be sure your hands are clean before accessing the beverage station and please stay clear of the area if you have been coughing or sneezing.

Thank you so much for your understanding in this important matter. It is our hope that with the proactive steps everyone across the country is taking, we can minimize the time frame and severity of the impacts of COVID-19.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

 

What can I do about my current reservation?

For stays between March 16, 2020 and April 15, 2020, guests who have not already checked in may change or cancel their reservation up to their original check-in date with no penalty. In the case of cancellation, guests will receive a full refund. Please call us at 703-979-3772 for assistance.

If you did not book directly with Americana Hotel, please contact your travel company for their policy. 

Are you taking new reservations?

Yes! We look forward to welcoming you as soon as you’re able to stay with us, and we want your travel planning process to be as easy and stress-free as possible. With that in mind, we have implemented our “Worry Free Booking Policy” for all reservations made between March 16, 2020 and April 15, 2020 for stays between March 16, 2020 and December 31, 2020. During this time, all reservations cancelled at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled check-in will be fully refundable. If the reservation is not changed or cancelled a day in advance, one night’s room and tax deposit will be non-refundable. 

So please, book without worry, and get your travel lined up for the rest of the year while these great rates and flexible booking terms are in place!

What operational changes are you making?

Please see the letter on the COVID-19 page of our website (www.americanahotel.com/covid-19) for an overview of changes including enhanced cleaning procedures, employee health screening, and suspension of continental breakfast.

As noted in our letters, we have taken our cleanliness to an even higher level, especially in our common areas, but we felt like this was a good time to share some of the steps we take day in and day out to protect the health and welfare of our guests and staff. While some of this may seem obvious, not every hotel or accommodation provider takes these steps.

Our linen is cleaned and disinfected by Alsco, a national, professional linen company. They make deliveries to us several times per week to remove dirty linen and provide us with clean products.

We change the linens in the room after every guest. That means we do not reuse sheets; we do not reuse towels; we do not reuse pillow cases. It does not matter if it looks like it was used or not; in the interest of health and safety, out it goes and freshly laundered items are placed in the room.

We wash our down-alternative comforters in bleach. This is important to kill things like bacteria, viruses, and dust mites, as well as to remove stains.

We thoroughly clean and disinfect the bathroom and room surfaces. We’re sure you’ve noticed, but not all 57 year old bathrooms are created equal. Our amazing housekeepers clean and scrub everything (e.g., wall and floor tile, towel bars, sink, faucet, handles, spigot, toilet, mirror, window ledge, etc.) in the bathrooms from top to bottom so it is clean and disinfected. They also clean the surfaces in the room including vanity tops, furniture tops, light switches, lamps and lamp switches, door handles, remotes, telephones, chairs, and more.

 

We are confident that the steps we are taking will help minimize the impact the coronavirus has on the community and appreciate everyone who is doing their part to help during this difficult time. We look forward to hosting you again soon!
